BLACK-AND-WHITE
LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHY
“Perhaps most intriguing of all is that it is possible to photograph what is impossible for the human eye to see – cumulative time.”
– Michael Kenna
Black-and-White African Landscape Photography
This is a curated gallery of my black-and-white African landscape photos.
Many of my black-and-white photos are actually monochrome and not traditional black and white. The photos have a slightly warmer sepia or cooler blue tint, often applied to only the darks and shadows, barely noticeable at times. This affords each photo a unique identity.
Black-and-white photography emphasizes texture, shape, and contrast over color, creating a timeless and dramatic effect by stripping away the complexity of the full-color spectrum. It removes color distractions, allowing you, as the viewer, to focus on these deeper visual qualities.
The locations of the photos in the gallery are within Southern Africa, where the vastness of the arid and savanna plains contrasts dramatically with the rugged peaks of the Drakensberg Mountains and the serene coastal expanses of the Western Cape and Wild Coast.
