WILDLIFE PHOTOGRAPHY
“Photography has the power to break down the walls of apathy, to grab people at the heart and then teach them something. You can change their minds, but you have to make that emotional connection first”
– Paul Nicklen
Color African Wildlife Photography
This is a selective gallery of my African wildlife photos in color.
Color African wildlife photography captures the raw essence of Southern Africa’s wildlife, revealing vibrant details of predators, the iconic Big Five, and other diverse species that black-and-white images cannot convey. From the golden hues of a lion’s mane to the intricate patterns of a leopard’s coat, color amplifies the vitality of these animals, underscoring their deep connection to threatened habitats.
Indices indicate an average 76% decline in monitored vertebrate populations across Africa from 1970 to 2020, mostly due to habitat loss from agriculture and mining, poaching, human-wildlife conflict, and climate-driven droughts. However, Big Five populations grew by about 5–10% between 2015 and 2025, mainly as a result of translocation and increased anti-poaching measures.
The locations of the photos are within Southern Africa, from the arid Kalahari Desert to the savanna grasslands, mopane bushveld, and riverine forests of Kruger National Park.
